The Emmys: Minka Kelly in Christian Dior

Minka Kelly was one of the few stars at the Emmys that I just couldn’t figure out.  I mean, in regards to her choice of gown, that is. 

Minka chose a dress from Christian Dior’s Pre-Fall 2011 Collection.  Lots of navy and lace, with a tiered skirt!  At first, I did not like this dress.  I didn’t like that she chose something with long sleeves.  But then it kinda grew on me.  I think it is pretty, in a retro-glam kinda way.  I mean, naturally I would’ve like to see Minka in something a bit more hip, something younger, something not so doily-like, but this is okay with me.  Obviously she is such a beautiful woman, she really looks gorgeous in everything she puts on! 

I am having a difficult time grading this Christian Dior on Minka.  I want to give her a C because I don’t love it, but I do feel it is better than average.  So….

The Emmys: Rashida Jones in Alberta Ferreti

Adorable actress Rashida Jones was one of the many celebs in attendance at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

 

 

 

Rashida looked lovely in a blush-pink Alberta Ferreti gown with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.  This dress has so many qualities I love: the pale-pink color, the tulle, the cinched waist and especially the sweetheart neckline.  This gown is so very feminine, I really, really like it!  And I think it looks fantastic on her!  My only issue with this….is her makeup.  Her makeup is waaaaay too dark and heavy for such a lovely, light dress.  I don’t like the dark eye makeup and I hate her dark lips!  She looks almost princess-like in the dress, so her makeup should’ve followed suit!  Minimal eye makeup with a lighter, glossy lip would have looked so much better, IMO. 

Rashida’s Emmy grade:  B  ( I really want to give her an A, but the dark makeup is holding me back)

The Emmys: Amy Poehler in Peter Som

Amy Poehler hit up the Emmy’s in a royal blue gown….

 

Amy chose a Fall 2011 Peter Som dress.  Me no likey.  At all.  This dress looks like faux leather (pleather!) or some kind of tacky vinyl material to me.  I just don’t think it is pretty, and I think it looks a bit too small for her.  The sleeves and chest area are super tight, and it looks as though she wouldn’t be able to lift or move her arms.  Yeah, I am just not feelin’ this. 

But, in her defense, I don’t like it on the runway, either:

 

I mean, sure, it looks better on the runway model, but I still don’t like it.  This Peter Som creation is just not my cup of tea! 

Amy’s Emmy grade:  C  (definitely could’ve been worse, but it is just very average!)

The Emmys: Kate Winslet in Elie Saab

Kate Winslet walked away a winner last night at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards…in more ways than one!  The actress won an Emmy for her role in HBO’s Mildred Pierce, but she also killed it in her Elie Saab gown!

 

 

 

Kate chose a fiery red cap-sleeve, v-neck Elie Saab gown from the Resort 2012 Collection.  Her soft up-do looks really lovely and totally shows off her diamond-drop earrings.  And I am 100% thrilled that Kate didn’t go for bright red lips!  Her lighter, coral colored lips look perfect with this gown!  More often than not, when stars wear red, they feel the need to wear matching red lipstick.  Clearly that is not necessary, because Kate looks amazing!  I really like this dress on Kate, especially the fact that it is pretty basic with not too much detail, yet still looks so amazing!

Kate’s Elie Saab Emmy grade:  A
