Happy Birthday, Barbie!

Today is the birthday of a true American icon:  Barbie!

Barbie was brought to life 53 years ago.  She started out as a doll.  A toy for young girls to play with, to dress up in pretty clothing.  But she has turned into so much more.  Barbie is a doctor, a dancer, an astronaut, an athlete, a teacher….she is everything.  She has taught children all over the world that you can literally be anything you want to be.  She has shown that women need not stand in the shadow of a man.  Barbie is independent and smart, yet fashionable and fun.  Barbie is simply amazing.

Through the years….

Tokidoki Barbie is in my arms tonight!

The moment I have been waiting for is finally here!  Seriously.  I have been anxiously awaiting her arrival for the last two weeks, aaaaaand……

Tokidoki Barbie is finally here!!  And SHE IS FABULOUS!!

back of the box!

Tokidoki Barbie is Gold Label, with no more than 7,400 dolls produced worldwide.  She is wearing an off-the-shoulder black short-sleeved sweatshirt with a white, glittery heart and crossbones on the front and pink leather mini-skirt.  Underneath her skirt she wears leopard print tights and glittered silver peep-toe pumps.  Tokidoki Barbie carries a bag over one shoulder and holds her dog (Bastardino!) on his leash with her other hand.  And let’s not forget her tattoos!  She has tattoos on her chest, part of her neck, and on her left arm!  Her tattoos are intricate and so full of color and detail!

And she is GLORIOUS!   As soon as I saw her IRL, she instantly became one of my favorite Barbies….and I own over 50 different dolls.  Tokidoki Barbie is like no other….although she is not the first Barbie with tattoos.  I own a Hard Rock Cafe Barbie that has tattoos as well!  Which is why I don’t really understand the controversy surrounding Tokidoki Barbie.  After all, the box does say “for the adult collector.”  Even still, lots of people are in a big panic over her-they don’t want their children playing with her.  But why?!  Because she has pink hair and a few tattoos?!  There is far worse on TV…..

What do you think about Tokidoki Barbie?!  Do you think she is super cool or super inappropriate?  You all know how I feel…….

W Magazine Art & Style: Nicki Minaj

W Magazine’s November Art & Style issue has an interesting cover girl:  Rapper (and wannabe Barbie!) Nicki Minaj!

The cover:

And inside:

Interesting photos.  I like ‘em.  It is a nice change from Nicki’s usual pink hair, crazy outfits and loud jewelry.

What do you think?

Amanda Seyfried in Prabal Gurung

Amanda Seyfried hit the red carpet in Los Angeles a couple of days ago for the premiere of ‘In Time’

Amanda chose a purple flowery print dress with a drop waist, circle skirt and v-back from the Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 Collection.   Her accessories include two simple bracelets and black platform sandals.  And of course her insanely gorgeous mane.  This girl has some seriously awesome hair.  I would kill for super-thick, silky hair like hers.  Honestly.  I would.  Anyway, back to the dress.  I really like it.  It is pretty, but the swirly, funky floral print makes it a little bit edgy, too.  And the runway version of this dress did not include a belt…which Amanda (or her stylist) added…and I really like.   She looks great.  I love this!

For some reason, maybe because I always have Barbie on the brain, in this Prabal Gurung dress Amanda reminds me of the Vincent Van Gogh Barbie…..

Not sure why.  Maybe just because the dresses have a similar (I am using that term very loosely!) color palette and both have interesting, sort of swirly type patterns.  I don’t know.   Either way, Amanda (and Barbie!) looks fabulous!

What do you think?  Do you like this violet-hued dress on Amanda?  I sure do.  ;)

Countess Dracula Barbie by Bob Mackie

Welcome to Barbie doll heaven, my friends.  In the plastic flesh.  Here she is, the newest member of the CandyBarbie family……

Countess Dracula Barbie

Not sure if you can tell in the above photo, but the words “Barbie Collector” have a bit of added detail for Halloween….dripping blood!  Love it!

She even has fangs….

And TO-DIE-FOR shoes….

While I didn’t photograph it, this is printed on the back of the box:

Master fashion designer Bob Mackie invites you to open the lid and discover the immortal glamour of Countess Dracula Barbie.  This gorgeous creature only comes out after dark.  When the sun sets, the vampiest of vampires rises, dressed to the teeth and ready to take you out for the night of your life.  Forever young and eternally beautiful, this royal lady offers immortal love and style.  She wears a velvety black gown and elaborate headpiece, both lavishly embroidered with red, purple, and silvery thread.  Rhinestones sparkle on her earrings and shoes, and her blood red hair is head-turning.  Once bitten, and never shy!

Countess Dracula Barbie is Gold Label, with only 3,200 produced worldwide.  And I plan to sleep with her next to my bedside, so each day is started off right….WITH BARBIE!   ;)
