It never fails….

Yesterday Kyle Thomas and I had a busy day.  Very busy.  I woke up around 6 am because recently my body has been rejecting the whole “sleeping in” thing.  Seriously.  I have had the last three days off from work, and I have woken up before 7 am all three days!  Naturally when the work week starts tomorrow I am sure I won’t be able to get out of bed!

We started off our morning by attending a baseball game!  Our friends Abby and Mike invited us to go watch their son Payton play his last little league game, so of course we there!  Kyle Thomas + sports = a match made in heaven.  For real.   Because the kids are young, they don’t keep score.  But Payton was the best player out of all the teams!  He actually knew what he was doing (most of the kids don’t!) and he hit a home run!  Wow!  We got to pose for a picture with the superstar after the game….

have some hair in your face, CandyBarbie....

Let’s try that again….

perfect!

After the baseball game, Ky-Ky and I had to head over to the bay area.  I had a certification exam (for work!) to take, so we thought we would head over early and spend some time with Kyle’s brother who lives over there.  We arrived at my brother-in-law’s house around 2 pm and then the 3 of us headed over to the local mall.  I was on the prowl for a cute little case for my new iPhone.  (BTW…thanks to my hubby for the awesome anniversary gift!)  We browsed the entire mall, and I finally decided on this little gem….

A Kate Spade case that is pink around the edges and black with white polka dots on the back!  Love it!

Now to the part of the day where the title of this post comes in.  My big birthday celebration is in August.  I have been looking for a special dress to wear to my 30th birthday party, so when we walked past Betsey Johnson, I knew I had to pop in!  Betsey Johnson dresses are super girly and flirty and cute!  Lots of pink and lots of sparkle!  Right up my alley!  I looked through the racks…and then I saw it.  The Dress.  A lovely champagne colored strapless party dress.  The top of it had sequins and the bottom had tulle.   Heaven in a dress.  Really.  Really cute with just the right amount of pouf to the skirt.  I immediately shot into the dressing room and changed into the dress.  I am convinced that Betsey Johnson made this dress for me.  There were no mirrors inside my fitting room, but I knew it fit me.  As soon as I pulled it on and zipped it up, I just knew.   I headed out so my 2 shopping partners could give me their input.  And they both agreed that the dress was pretty and fit perfectly!  From that moment on it was official: I found my birthday dress!   So I bounced back into my dressing room and changed, feeling quite happy about finding a dress that I loved so much!  And then I glanced at the price tag.  Uh-oh.

$470.00

I didn’t even think to check the price before trying the dress on.  When I was browsing the racks earlier I noticed a couple of price tags on some of the other dresses and I hadn’t seen anything over $200.  In fact, the ones I saw were around $130-$150.   Naturally I would choose the most expensive dress in the entire store.  It never fails.   Needless to say, I walked away from Betsey Johnson empty-handed.  And sad.  Very sad.   I guess it wasn’t meant to be, CandyBarbie and the beautiful champagne colored party dress.

After the disappointing dress experience, it was time for me to head over to the testing center and take my exam!  Kyle Thomas drove me over to the testing center, where he dropped me off and then quickly sped away.  Okay, not really.  He did drop me off, but didn’t speed away.  He and his brother wished me good luck, and vowed to return for me in 2 hours.

Two hours later I emerged from the building, found a spot in the sun to sit down and got out my phone to call my chauffeur (Kyle).  Before I could even punch in his number, he was pulling in the parking lot!  Perfect timing!   Kyle’s brother had a commitment for later that evening, so we dropped him off at his condo, then the two of us headed out to find a delicious restaurant where we could eat and grab a drink in celebration of me passing my test!  I wanted Italian and Ky-Ky wanted Cajun.  Guess which one won out in the end?  Yep, Cajun.  But it wasn’t really like that.  The Italian restaurant where we wanted to eat was jam-packed with people.  The wait was probably over an hour-long.  No thank you.  We were hungry!   Luckily, though, located right next door was a cute little Cajun restaurant/bar/hangout.  We walked right in, no waiting!

My celebratory drink, a pineapple margarita:

The food was pretty good.  I think Kyle Thomas maybe enjoyed his seafood/chicken jambalaya a bit more than I enjoyed my baked potato-topped-with-BBQ-chicken.  After we finished our meal, we spotted a cupcake bakery a few doors down.  Of course we had to go in!  Thirteen dollars later we walked away with 4 cupcakes: chocolate coconut, sweet vanilla, s’mores and organic strawberry.

Aren’t they pretty?!  I think I like to admire their gorgeousness as much as I like to eat ‘em!  Okay, maybe not…..

After the cupcake-shop-stop, we called it a day!  We climbed in our car and started the two-hour drive home!  All-in-all a very nice little Saturday.  Except of course, for the dress incident.  Or should I say the lack-of-a-dress incident.   ;)
