EDC 2012: Day 1

Good Morning friends!  My handsome hubby and I are in the very warm, yet very entertaining city of Las Vegas, Nevada.  We arrived here in Vegas Thursday afternoon.  Reason for the trip?  The Electric Daisy Carnival…otherwise known as EDC.  EDC is held at the Speedway here in Vegas and is a 3-day music festival.  There are multiple stages with different musicians playing music literally all night long.  EDC is strictly EDM (Electronic Dance Music) so there are famous DJ’s from all around the world who travel to Vegas to claim a spot on one of the many coveted EDC stages.   Each day the carnival (yes, it is technically a carnival.  There are rides and everything!) opens at 7 pm and music is played all through the night until the last artists wrap up the show at 5 am.

This is my first time attending EDC, and let me tell you, it is a sight to behold.  It is pretty much unlike anything I have ever seen.  So.Many.People.  Everywhere.  Last year EDC drew a crowd of over 230,000 people and this year that number is expected to rise to over 300,000.  It is crazy and overwhelming at times.  Indescribable, really.  Music is blaring all night long, there are ferris wheels, side-show performers, fire-breathing dragons, food and drinks galore….and the costumes.  Oh, the costumes.  You name it, and it is probably at EDC.

EDC attire consists mainly of women in next-to-nothing.  Bikini tops, fuzzy knee-high boots, fishnet everything, neon anything, glow sticks, pasties and of course, daisies affixed to any and every part of the body.   It is pretty crazy.  Guys, too.  It isn’t just the ladies going bonkers.  I saw men in pasties, leather chaps, fuzzy boots, underwear and body paint.  But hey, it’s a party, so anything goes!

As I said, I am a first-time EDC-goer so I kept my attire very demure.  I figured I would play it safe the first night, and get a feel for what people are wearing, so I would have a better idea of how to dress for the next two nights.  Here is what I settled on for day 1 of EDC:

EDC: Day1 outfit

Outfit Details:

* Striped sleeveless blouse-Poetry

* Jean shorts & belt-Forever 21

* Sandals-DV Dolce Vita

My outfit choice ended up being fine.  I was a bit worried that I would be, like, the only person not wearing a funky costume of some sort.  But that wasn’t the case at all.  While many people (guys and girls) were dressed wild and crazy, there were just as many in regular attire.  I was perfectly comfortable….and am very much looking forward to the next two nights!  Should be an experience I will never forget!  ;)

2012 Billboard Music Awards: Carrie Underwood in Oscar de la Renta

Pretty princess with an edgy twist….

Celeb:  Carrie Underwood

Designer:  Oscar de la Renta

Event:  2012 Billboard Music Awards, Las Vegas

Verdict:  I really like this Oscar de la Renta gown on Carrie!  I think it has that pretty-as-a-princess quality, but the wild and crazy multi-layer tulle skirt give it an edgy, flirty feel!  And I adore the lavender, almost grayish color!  I think this dress is so beautiful, yet fun and perfectly appropriate for the venue.  It is not too over-the-top, but not too prim and proper, either.  Carrie looks great!

What do you think?  Do you like this strapless purple-y gray Oscar de la Renta gown on Carrie?  Love it or loathe it?  Yay or nay?

Topshop Store Opening: Kristen Bell in Topshop

It’s weird how even skinny girls can look frumpy in certain outfits….

Celeb:  Kristen Bell

Designer:  Topshop

Event:  Topshop Store Opening, Las Vegas

Verdict:  While I think this is a cute outfit, I don’t think it is particularly flattering to Kristen’s figure.  She is tiny and very petite, yet this outfit makes her look bulky and awkward, IMO.   I cannot quite tell if this is a skirt and blouse with camisole underneath or if it is a dress with a top worn over it.  Either way, though, I think it is cute enough, but I don’t think it looks great on Kristen.  Also, I feel like this outfit is a bit too busy.   The skirt has a lot going on, the top has a lot going on and the necklace is a bit large for my taste.  I do however, adore her shoes.   They are hands down the best part of this outfit.

What do you think?  Do you like this Topshop outfit on Kristen?  Love it or leave it?  Yay or nay?

21st Birthday Celebration: Sarah Hyland in Chagoury Couture

‘Modern Family’ actress Sarah Hyland celebrated her 21st Birthday the other night at The Bank Nightclub located at the Bellagio in Las Vegas….

Sarah chose a strapless satin embellished dress from the Chagoury Couture Spring/Summer 2012 Collection and paired it with matching satin peep-toe pumps.  I think this is a really cute dress and I think Sarah’s hair and makeup look really nice.  Buuuut, I am not crazy about her choice of shoe.  I realize that her shoes do match perfectly, but for some reason I don’t really like ‘em.  Because the dress is a bit busy, her shoe needs to be fairly simple….and they are….but I’m just not feelin’ it.  I really like the dress, though!  And Sarah is way adorable, so it is hard to say anything negative about her!  ;)

What do you think?  Do you like Sarah in this Chagoury Couture dress?  Yay or nay?

In-Store Appearance for Chinese Laundry at Dillards: Kristin Cavallari in McGinn

Kristin Cavallari (who is one of my favorite celebs!) was in Las Vegas last weekend and popped into Dillards to promote the shoe brand Chinese Laundry (K.Cav is the spokeswoman for CL)….

Kristin chose a white McGinn dress and a navy blue Elizabeth and James blazer.  And black Chinese Laundry platform pumps, of course!

Despite being caught at a weird-facial-expression-moment, I think Kristin looks really cute!  I am a GINORMOUS fan of blazers and I especially love ‘em when worn over cute dresses!  So Kristin is really pleasing me in this outfit.  I probably always prefer dresses over pants, so it makes me happy that she chose a dress for a casual event…rather than going with the standard skinny jean that lots of celebs love so much.   This McGinn dress looks great on Kristin and the blazer worn over it looks even…..more great!  This outfit is right up my alley!  I love it!  Casual and cute….you can’t go wrong!  ;)

What do you think?  Do you like this white McGinn dress on Kristin?  Yay or nay?
