This post is a very special one for me! Number one, this is my first celebrity interview and number two, it involves a special person in my life, my brother-in-law Colin. Colin Kaepernick is a recent graduate of the University of Nevada, where he played quarterback for the Wolf Pack. And he didn’t just “play” quarterback. He starred as quarterback, setting NCAA records doing things that no other college athlete had done before. Ever. Not only is Colin an amazingly talented athlete (he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs!) but he is truly a great person through and through. He is caring and thoughtful and always puts family first. Above all else, his family and faith are number one. Well, and of course football. The first time I met Colin he was just eight years old. I walked into his parents living room and he was sprawled out on the couch holding a football. Even as a child football was his passion. And if you are passionate about what you do, you will accomplish great things. At twenty-three, Colin has accomplished things that most people will never accomplish in their entire lives. And this is just the beginning. His future is bright. Very bright.
With all that being said, I know Colin does many interviews, even on a daily basis. And I know he gets asked a lot of the same questions over and over. It can start to feel a bit redundant for him, I’m sure. I wanted to do something different. Something fun. I wanted to do an interview with Colin that was light-hearted and entertaining, where maybe a bit more of his personality could shine through. So I prepared twenty questions for him (with the help of my husband!) and luckily for me Colin was a great sport and answered every single one! Here we go……
Twenty Questions with Colin Kaepernick
CandyBarbie: As you already know, I am a bit of a candy connoisseur, and consider myself to be quite knowledgeable on the subject. I know that you, too, are a fan of candy. What is your favorite candy?
Colin Kaepernick: I definitely am a candy connoisseur, but I have to say my favorite candy is a pretty simple one, sour patch kids.
CB: For all of the ladies out there who read CandyBarbie, I have to ask: Do you have a girlfriend?
CK: No, I don’t have a girlfriend
CB: I have said this on CandyBarbie many times….I am a huge fan of Holly Madison. She is my favorite! If you could take any one female celebrity on a date, who would you take? And where?
CK: I would have to say Skylar Diggins because she is tall, athletic, and beautiful. I would probably take her to Hawaii or Miami, somewhere with a beach because you can never have a bad time on the beach.
CB: Men wearing the color pink seems to be a trend that is becoming more and more popular. How do you feel about that? Would you ever wear pink?
CK: I can’t stand the color pink! Sorry, I know it is your favorite.
CB: You looked pretty sharp in that Burberry coat you sported for your New York photo shoot. I myself own a Burberry trench coat and I can honestly say it is a timeless piece of clothing that will never go out of style. Will you be purchasing one this winter?
CK: After wearing those trench coats in that photo shoot that might be a purchase I have to make for this upcoming winter!
CB: I recently heard that you rock out to Beyonce on your iPod! Clearly, you have good taste in music! Have you ever been to any live concerts? If so, which one(s)?
CK: Let me start by saying I do not rock out to Beyonce, but every once in a while you have to switch it up on people. I have only been to one concert and that was the E40 concert when I was a freshman in college.
CB: I am gonna keep this next question short and simple: Dale Doback or Brennan Huff?
CK: Brennan Huff
CB: I know you probably get asked all the time who your favorite football player is or which player you looked up to most while growing up. I want to know who your favorite professional non-football athlete is and why?
CK: I’m going to have to go with Derek Jeter. He has been the face of that franchise for a long time and performed so well for a very long time, and yet still handles himself with such poise and confidence it’s amazing!
CB: Mr. CandyBarbie (aka Darth!) is a big fan of Batman. Who is your favorite superhero?
CK: My favorite superhero has to be Flash! Speed kills!
CB: Let’s go out on a limb here and say your last meal of all time is tomorrow. What would it consist of?
CK: Pizza, hot wings, strawberry lemonade kool-aid, and sour patch kids.
CB: I am a big fan of dessert. Sweets are my thang! A warm slice of apple pie with sugary crust could possibly be my all-time favorite. Which would you go for: slice of pie or piece of cake? And what kind?
CK: A piece of cake hands down. The confetti cakes are my favorite.
CB: Everyone on Twitter knows about your love affair with Spongebob Squarepants. And I have to say, I do enjoy an episode of Spongebob every now and again. And I quite like Gary. Who is your favorite SBSP character?
CK: My favorite character is probably Sandy for the simple fact that she is the best at everything she does and is smart on top of that.
CB: This may be a hard question to answer, because you probably have so many…..What is your fondest childhood memory?
CK: Best childhood memory is probably throwing my first touchdown pass when I was 9 years old, which happened to be my first ever play at quarterback.
CB: Now, I know you claim to “not like” scary movies…..but I am going to assume that you have at least seen a few over the course of your 23 years. If you had to pick one as a favorite, which one would you choose? What is your favorite non-scary movie?
CK: Favorite scary movie would probably be Saw, if that counts, because it makes you think the whole time. Gladiator is my all time favorite movie because the storyline is so good and he conquers all who stand in his path.
CB: I know you really hope to travel to Italy sometime in the near future, if your schedule allows. Are there any other places that you would love to visit? For example, right now my ”dream vacation” would be to travel to Bora Bora and stay in a little bungalow over the water. Where would your ”dream vacation” take you?
CK: After I get to Italy my next place to visit will probably be somewhere in the Caribbean.
CB: I have a real problem with rude, inconsiderate people. I hate when people have full-on conversations on their cell phones while going through the check-out line at the grocery store. It’s just rude and it really gets under my skin!! What is a major pet-peeve of yours?
CK: My biggest pet peeve is dirty people and that goes from not having a clean house to not washing your hands when you go to the bathroom.
CB: What is a current fashion trend that you really like? What is one that you really loathe? I’ll get you started……I hate skinny jeans! On both guys and girls! Hate ‘em!!
CK: I like the fashion trend that more people are going into a more professional and business clean-cut look, but I have to follow you with the skinny jeans because I can’t stand them!
CB: Let’s say that one day you have a son of your own, and he wants to play with Barbie! Will you allow it?
CK: Sorry, CandyBarbie, but that wouldn’t be my first choice!
CB: If you were to go outside right now, and there was a brand new vehicle in your driveway with a big red bow on it, what vehicle would it be?
CK: It would be a Ferrari, I have wanted one since I can remember.
CB: Last, but obviously not least, when are you going to take a trip to Vegas with Mr. & Mrs. CandyBarbie (aka the two funnest people, ever!)??
CK: As soon as I have free time, that doesn’t interfere with football.
There you have it! The official CandyBarbie interview with Colin Kaepernick! To conclude I would just like to say thanks again to Colin for being a good sport and humoring me!! And thanks to Kyle and Shawn for helping to make this interview happen!
